Steel Drum Resources

This page is designed to offer each player the tools for success.  You can work on your knowledge of  music letter names, Steel Drum pan layouts and sticking to use both hands.

Lead/Tenor

The Lead or Tenor pan is a treble clef instrument which is generally thought of as the melody pan. The notes are laid out on a single steel drum.

Double Second

The Double Second pans are a treble clef instrument. This pan set uses two steel pans and will play a combination of melody and strum patterns in a song.​

Tenor Bass

The Tenor Bass pans are a bass clef instrument. This pan set uses 4 steel pans and doubles the 6 Bass part an octave higher.​

Double Tenor

The Double Tenor pans are a treble clef instrument. This pan set usses two steel pans and typically plays melody or a melodic line which harmonizes with the melody.

​

Trios (Guitar/Cello)

The Trio pans are bass clef instrument. This pan set uses three steel pans. Trios are also referred to as Guitar and Cello pans but the layouts are identical. This pan usually plays strum patterns with occasional melodic lines in a song.

6 Bass

The 6 Bass pans are a bass clef instrument. This pan set uses 6 full-size barrels set in a circular pattern around the player. This pan plays the chord foundation notes in a song.
